||Young and Strong: An Education and Supportive Care Intervention Study for Young Women with Breast Cancer
||The overall objective of this study is to determine the effect of an educational and support intervention for young women with breast cancer and their oncology providers (YWI) on attention to fertility issues compared to a physical activity comparison intervention (PAI) in a randomized controlled trial.
-To explore the effect of the YWI on other important quality of care measures in young women )e.g., attention to genetic issues and emotional health), as well as patient satisfaction with care, overall distress, and quality of lide.
-To explore the effects of a well-designed, through not young-women specific, physical activity contact-time comparison intervention (PAI) to increase or maintain exercise behaviors in the comparison group.
||No treatment is received in this study. Patients will be given printed materials and complete survey information (baseline and 3 follow-up) via a website, phone interview or mail.
participating oncology site will be randomized to either the Young Women's Intervention Development (YWI) or Physical Activity Interention Development (PAI) arm. Outcomes of interest will be measured by
a) patient surveys to measure patient reported outcomes (e.g., attention to fertility, attention to other related issues, satisfaction with care and treatment decisions, distress, quality of life, physical activity behaviors), and b) medical record review to assess quality indicators (e.g., attention to fertility, potential infertility, genetic considerations, assessment of psychosocial functioning, discussion of physical activity).
